Culture restores the images of cultural heritage of Albudeite (28/11/2014)

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities restore some of the images that are conserved in the Church of the Remedies of Albudeite and forming part of the cultural heritage of the town.

Specifically, the technicians of the Department are considering restoring a statue of the Virgin of Remedies, an image of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin, dating from around the seventeenth century and a series of elements that processions in Holy Week municipality and are dated to the nineteenth century.

The Director General of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, met this morning with the acting mayor of Albudeite, Jesus Garcia, who visited the church to check the condition in which they find these images.

"These are two exceptional carvings that are part of the cultural heritage of Albudeite and therefore the region, so let's put all our efforts to restore the splendor they deserve," said Comas.

The visit also involved the director of the Center for Restoration of the Region of Murcia, Francisco López Soldevila, who conducted a preliminary technical assessment of these images.

In the coming weeks is expected that a second, more detailed, technical inspection to know in depth the state of these carvings and decide what type of restoration actions required by each of the elements is performed.

The image of Our Lady of Remedies, the patron saint of the town, is of Neapolitan origin and is dated around the nineteenth century.

Note the figure of the child she carries in her hands, made by the famous sculptor José Sánchez Lozano.

The image of the Immaculate Conception is in worse condition, with cracks and flaws probably attributed to the early church was presiding Albudeite and subjected to inclement weather.
